Shattered People, Broken Country
"Shattered People, Broken Country" is a photographic project documenting the profound and complex impact of the devastating March 28, 2025 earthquake in Myanmar.
This natural disaster struck a nation already grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis following the 2021 military coup. The ongoing political instability and civil conflict have significantly complicated emergency response efforts. The military junta has been accused of hindering humanitarian aid delivery, particularly to areas not under its full control, by imposing restrictions, operating checkpoints, and even hoarding international assistance. Furthermore, a collapsed healthcare system, continued military operations even after the quake, and internet shutdowns have collectively hampered vital rescue and relief operations, making the recovery process even more challenging for affected communities.
Through on-site visits to impacted regions, this project captures immense loss and suffocating daily struggles of individuals and communities as they navigate the catastrophe's aftermath, offering intimate insights into the human dimension of this widespread disaster, intensified by a challenging political landscape.
